Cycling

Cycling can be enjoyed by young and old alike, by the experienced and by the total novice. There are so many quiet roads, tracks and paths around Millness Croft, and the Highlands, that you will be quite simply, spoilt for choice.

You can set off from the luxury of your cottage and cycle for a few hours, or an all day route. (There are maps and plans available at your cottage). Of course, the most famous of all Scottish routes is the Great Glen way, mentioned also in the walking section. Cyclists are welcomed along this route too. An off-road bike is advisable as there are some hillier sections as you go along and can be quite taxing.

The main forest roads are open to biking enthusiasts and give you plenty of opportunity for off-roading.

Two local areas of interest;

Balnain Bike Park (5 mins) www.10glens.co.uk
Unlike any other centre in Scotland, Balnain Bike Park is the cycling equivalent of a skateboard park. Aimed at experienced mountain bikers, it is graded double black. It also boasts a skills development park to practise tricks and manoeuvres at leisure, and the infamous Fun Box is said to be the first for UK Mountain Bike Centres.


Abriachan (15 mins) - www.abriachan.org.uk
Located near Loch Ness, Abriachan is made up of 530 hectares of forest and open hill ground and 14km of managed mountain bike trails called Kelpies Trails. Known as a family-friendly centre, the green and blue trails are very suitable for newcomers, made sturdy with crushed local stone. There is also a great skills loop to practise early developing skills.


With so many different centres to choose from and new trails being built all the time, Scotland is an exciting base for mountain biking in Europe and the world.


We are happy to help organise bike hire, (complete with insurance, helmets, puncture repair kits etc), for you with a local company who will deliver the bike(s) to your cottage.  Please just ask for details.

There are plenty of bike shops available for cycle parts and repairs around, should they be required.
